Minutes of a meeting of Bradford On Tone Parish Council held on 11th June 2024, commencing
at 7.30pm in the Chant Room, Bradford on Tone Village Hall

Chair’s Announcements
The Chair welcomed the co-option candidate to the meeting and announced that as the
report of the internal auditor had not been received it would not possible to consider
agenda items 10-13.
At the Chair’s invitation Councillor Venn said that he had followed up enquiries about the
defibrillator and Dr Tom Herdman and Mr Richards had said they are willing to do the
regular checks; the trainer (from Wiveliscombe) has offered to do another training session.
The Chair told the meeting that she had written a short report about the Annual Parish
Meeting for the parish magazine but unfortunately it went into the editors’ spam box and
was not found before the deadline for receipt of articles.

There were no apologies for absence from Councillors as everyone was present.

No declarations of interest were made at this stage of the meeting.

Minutes
Consideration was given to the draft minutes of the Parish Council meeting held on 14 May
2024
RESOLVED subject to amending Minute 53/2024 to read “Richards Home & Garden
Maintenance” (in the list of approved payments) to confirm the draft minutes of
the Parish Council meeting held on 14 May2024 as a correct record.

Public Participation
This agenda item enables members of the public present at the meeting to raise matters
which are relevant to Bradford on Tone and / or the work of the Council.

The speaker said that the markers for the ditch at Stoford Turn have
not been put back since the lorry accident neither has the junction
warning sign

The possibility of a warning sign for the new field entrance near the junction for Hele was
also raised.

Co-Option
Consideration was given to an application to be co-opted onto the Parish Council from Mr J
Leaney; Mr Leaney introduced himself and spoke briefly about his wish to become a parish
councillor.
RESOLVED to co-opt Mr Leaney to the Parish Council.
Note: Mr Leaney signed his declaration of acceptance of office.

Grant Requests
Churchyard Maintenance
A request for a grant towards maintenance of the churchyard was considered. In
previous years there had been a grant of £420.00 from Somerset Council but this
had now ceased due to the financial emergency
Discussion on this agenda item included:
• The church yard is an Important space at the heart of the village
• The churchyard is used as a place to walk by a lot of local people
RESOLVED to make a grant of £500.00 towards maintenance of the church yard
(ii)

Village Clock
Consideration was given to a request to make a grant towards repairs to the village
clock.
RESOLVED
(i)
to approve a grant in principle for repairs to the village clock
(ii)
that the maximum amount of the grant should be £150
(iii)
that the Parish Clerk is delegated to find out the amount of money that is
outstanding (following donations) and to make the grant payment subject to
the maximum amount given in (ii) above.

Planning Application 7/24/0009/ Timewells Cottage, Oake Road, Bradford on
Tone
Consideration was given to the Parish Council’s response to the application to fell one
cherry tree within Bradford on Tone Conservation Area

RESOLVED that the Parish Council has no objection to the application to fell one cherry tree
at Timewells Cottage, Oake Road, Bradford on Tone but requests a suitable
replacement is planted within the curtilage of the property1.

Exclusion of the Press & Public
RESOLVED to exclude the press and public during consideration of Agenda Item 16, Salary
Increments, on the grounds that publicity would be prejudicial to the public
interest by reasons of its confidential nature (personal information).

Salary Increment
Consideration was given to the approval of a salary increment for the Parish Clerk to be
paid with effect from 1 April 2024 in accordance with her contract of employment.
RESOLVED that in accordance with her contract a salary increment is awarded to the Parish
Clerk with effect from 1 April 2024 taking the salary to SCP 16 (£14.70per hour)
